April showers bring May flowers. Nothing says spring is here like bright new cups to sip your coffee from. That's according to starbucks. The international coffee giant rolled out new designs to welcome the new season. Starbucks announced cups in pastel blue, pastel green, pastel yellow and will be available starting March 16. But they won't last long. The cups will be handed out in Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada for just a handful of days. This is the first time Starbucks introduces a spring line. The wildly successful coffee chain has welcomed the summer and fall months with new cup designs.
The spring line features an images of an umbrella, a smiling sun and cheerful character.
Starbucks holiday cups draw criticism
The response to Starbucks' new spring cup line has received has been positive. Unlike past designs. In 2016, Starbucks came under fire with its green holiday cup designs because the coffee chain left out traditional Christmas symbols. Many took to social media and accused of Starbucks of being politically correct. The holiday cup debuted 20 year ago. The green cup was a change from the iconic red cup and had a mosaic of people from all walks of life. The CEO, Howard Schultz, said the design was a symbol of unity. The backlash froze after Starbucks replaced their pre-holiday green paper cups with red cups.
The cups featured artwork from artists from around the world.
Starbucks spring cups are here but spring isn't here just yet
The days are starting to seem longer and the flowers are blossoming. Yes, spring may seem like it's here but not according to science. According to The Sun, the astronomical calendar identifies seasons when the Earth's "rotational axis is at a 23.5 degree in relation to its orbit around the sun." According to the model, spring starts on March 20 until June 20.
But Starbucks customers will get to celebrate the new season a few days early with its rollout of the new pastel paper cups. Instagramers, get ready to show off your new pastel manicures holding your cup!
