Fashion Week runway is iridescent

Custo Barcelona debuted their Fall 2017 collection at Pier 59 in New York City. The designer embraced new technology and fabrics with old-fashioned hand looming to create the 68 looks that dazzled the standing-room-only crowd during New York fashion Week.

Backstage before his runway show, designer Custo Dalmau talked to Blasting News about his inspiration. “This is an ode to individuality and ‘shining the light.’ The collection is built around iridescent lame, fabrics with metallic finishes, as well as laminated, shiny fabrics embossed with metal, glitter, sparkles and precious stones.

We also used a bright color palette this season.”

Models illuminated the runway in all things metallic, bright, and bold, from mini-dresses and bomber jackets to trousers, skirts, and sweatshirts. He mixed it up with lots of patterns, fabrics, and textures throughout the collection. Custo added, “women should be able to choose freely in what they wear, and not follow trends if they are not comfortable. What you wear should be an extension of your personality.” So wear it well, ladies!

And, the men in the show wore it well, too. They cat-walked in everything from skinny pants to oversized metallic coats, keeping with the Custo Barcelona philosophy of using "light" to express your personality.

Son Jung Wan pays homage to ‘80s chicks

Designer Son Jung Wan found inspiration for her Fall 2017 collection from the 1980s. “My theme was inspired by the looks from the ‘80s. I incorporated the power shoulders from that era and contrasted the design with a narrow waist for a softer exaggerated silhouette. And, I used metallic embroidery in many of the designs you will see on the runway.” Her nostalgic, big-shouldered creations included handcrafted knits, furs, and velvets in stunning shades of burgundy, turquoise, green, and gold.

Front row fans included actress Kelly Rutherford, Miss Universe, and male Supermodel Alex Lundqvist. And yes, he is a cousin of hockey great, Henrik Lundqvist from the New York Rangers.
