It looks like another Sega character is joining Sonic the Hedgehog and Bayonetta in the fray. Joker from "Persona 5" makes a stylish return in one of the biggest gaming cross-over fighting series - "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate." Nintendo has just released a 15-minute video demonstrating the colorful rogue's moves and abilities while the voices of his companions break down the process and provide color commentary.

You'll never see it coming

For the uninitiated, "Persona 5" is the latest in a long-running JRPG series developed by Atlas and spun off from a media franchise called "Megami Tensei." Each entry revolves around a completely different cast of characters but incorporates elements of high school life, Jungian philosophy, and mythology in each game.

The fifth installment revolves around a rebellious delinquent nicknamed Joker who is put on probation for a crime that he didn't commit.

As part of his rehabilitation, he's enrolled in a school known as Shujin Academy where he discovers a supernatural dimension made up of the deep subconscious desires of humankind. It's up to Joker and a group of vigilantes known as the Phantom Thieves of Hearts to venture forth this dimension dubbed the Metaverse and rid the darkness within the hearts of those in the real world.

The game was released in 2017 to rave reviews and commercial success. One particular fan of the game was Masahiro Sakurai- the creator of Nintendo's platforming hero "Kirby" and the aforementioned "Super Smash Bros" series.

In an interview with him Atlus, he said that he "enjoyed the developer's creativity" and called it's graphical style "truly remarkable." So great was Sakurai's love for "Persona 5," that in the brief moments of downtime he had during the development of "SSBU," he attempted to 100 percent the game and unlock everything without the help of a guide or walkthrough.

Joker steals the show

The 15-minute video showcases the different abilities of Joker and a brand new arena for players to fight in. Joker wields a knife and a gun. He can also use a grappling hook to pull opponents closer or to recover should he face a ring out. One ability that makes Joker stand out from the other fighters is his use of the trademark Persona.

When he takes enough damage, he's able to summon Arsene, his main persona named after the gentleman thief Arsene Lupin. Also featured in the video is Mementos: the color-coded arena fueled by the hearts of the masses. The color palette of the arena changes according to the background music.

Joker will be available April 17th via the purchasable challenger pack which is soon to include more characters in the future. This isn't the only cameo the Maurice Leblanc inspired hero made. Prior to his appearance in "SSBU," Joker's costume was a downloadable skin in "Sonic Forces."
