It's finally here. After months and months of waiting for "Dark Souls Remastered," the highly anticipated game has finally been released to PC, PlayStation Four, and Xbox One on May 25.
An old classic with a new look
In the latest enhancement trailer, we're shown exactly what's been updated in this remastered version of this classic game. New 4k visuals, 60 fps, better lighting, better shading, and particle effects are only some of the things that have been implemented in this game. These changes might seem minor and won't mean anything to someone who never played the original, but those who played the original "Dark Souls" will no doubt love these new additions.
Especially in Blighttown, the infamous map from the game which suffered greatly from frame rate dips is now functioning at this new rate. Digital Foundry got their hands on a copy of the PS4 version and made a video where they examined Blighttown and put it to the test. And huzzah! It was smooth sailing.
Digital Foundry concluded that the PS4 remaster is “a glowing early sign for PS4 users."
A bigger change to this version of "Dark Souls" is the multiplayer game. The number of players allowed has jumped from four players to six players. Plus "Dark Souls Remastered" will have dedicated servers, meaning multiplayer should be a much smoother and more fun experience.
And while there may be no new content, "Dark Souls Remastered" will also include the "Artorias of the Abyss DLC."
Delayed for Nintendo Switch
While reviews for this game are phenomenal it's not all good news for some.
"Dark Souls" for Nintendo Switch was rumored to come out last year and was officially announced on Nintendo Direct in January of this year but unfortunately Nintendo Switch users will have to wait a while longer before they can jump in on the experience. As of now, there has been no news on the exact release date but it's been announced for summer 2018.
Hopefully, we'll receive news at E3 2018, which is June 12 – June 14.
And this isn't the only bad news, as the network test has been delayed to an unknown date, and the "Dark Souls" special Solaire Amibo's release has been delayed too, presumably to the mystery date of "Dark Souls Remastered" for the Nintendo Switch. By using the Solaire Amiibo, players will be able to use the Praise the Sun gesture from the start of the game, but presumably, you'll be able to unlock this gesture through normal play as well.
"Dark Souls Remastered" is not only causing old players to fall back in love with the game but seems to be a perfect buy for those who never played the original. Hopefully, this quality will remain when it's finally released to the Switch.
