On March 19th, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) kicked off its five-day conference. Indie companies showcased the fruits of their labor and people got a chance to check out the comfy and light Oculus Go. On March 21st, Studio Wildcard decided to announce something bold.
About 'Ark'
Studio Wildcard revealed at their panel that "Ark: Survival Evolved" would be making its way to the Nintendo Switch in the fall of 2018. "Ark: Survival Evolved" is a survival adventure game developed by Studio Wildcard; a gaming company based in Kirkland, Washington.
"Ark: Survival Evolved" is the first game Studio Wildcard has released and it was shown at E3 2015. "Ark" made its debut on August 29, 2017, with mixed reviews all over the board -- with reviewers stating that it's unforgiving and cluttered with content.
"Ark" has players acquiring resources such as food and materials to build your base and craft weapons, tame dinosaurs to protect your base, and attack another person's base to use as a source of transportation. Players are able to plant, farm, and cook food. You can also team up with other players by creating your own tribe or prey on other players to survive. For people who aren't looking for a multiplayer experience, the game offers a single-player campaign which allows players to tweak the game's setting, essentially creating a private server.
A bonus to having a private server is that you'll be able to invite your friends and team up.
Is this game for me?
If you're a fan of the survival adventure genre or if you always wanted to ride a T-Rex while charging dauntlessly toward an enemy base, then this game may be for you. "Ark" can be a very unforgiving game when attempting to combat the various dinosaurs, creatures, and players if you charge unprepared and that may be something you personally enjoy.
However, I would suggest waiting for a sale for the game if the $60.00 price tag doesn't appeal to you.
The game has been ironing out the bugs and glitches since its release date, so that's another tidbit to keep in mind. If you're stuck in a section of the game, the online community can be helpful. Studio Wildcard hasn't stated if any new additions will be coming to the Nintendo Switch version, only that they are focusing on making it optimal. "Ark: Survival Evolved" is currently available on Steam, Xbox One, PS4, Linux, and Mac OS. Studio Wildcard announced that an IOS and Android version would be coming as well.
