About 'The Surge'
Developed by Deck 13 Interactive and published by Focus Interactive, "The Surge" is a science fiction, action role-playing game for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game was considered a spiritual successor to the developers' earlier action RPG “Lords of the Fallen,” with which it shares some similarities and gameplay features. The developer also described "The Surge" as inspired by the role-playing game style of the very popular "Dark Souls" series.
The action RPG takes place in a dystopian future where humans have already consumed much of the world’s resources, leading to widespread shortages and environmental issues. As for the gameplay, players use some sort of futuristic exoskeleton, which can be customized through the game through upgrades, to battle enemies.
For the combat system, it uses a dynamic limb-targeting combat system as well as finishing moves to target and destroy enemies.
Development of “The Surge” first started in August 2015 and the pre-alpha gameplay footage was first released to the public in March 2016. "The Surge" is powered by the innovative FLEDGE game engine, which was developed by Deck 13 Interactive for PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
The game has also been developed with some Nvidia GameWorks integration. The upcoming sequel, “The Surge 2,” is slated for release sometime in 2019.
