The "God Of War" series made its debut on the PlayStation 2 and has since become one of the most well-recognized PlayStation-exclusive series around. The original games saw a Spartan warrior named Kratos take on the Gods of Olympus on an epic quest for revenge. The intense action gameplay and over the top violence has seen "God of War" become hugely popular and the series has even seen several spin-off games release on the Sony PSP.

A new beginning

The last time we saw Kratos was in "God of War: Ascension" back on the PS3 in 2013, but we've not heard from the angry warrior in some time.

Then, much to the delight of fans, a new "God of War" game was officially announced at Sony's E3 2016 press conference. The announcement of "God of War" came with a gameplay trailer which showed Kratos had traveled North to lands where the Norse Gods rule. This new chapter sees Kratos traveling with his young son as they try to survive the dangers that await them in this new land.

Release date announced

We've seen plenty of "God of War" since it was announced in 2016, but what fans have really been waiting for is a solid Release Date, and now that has finally been revealed. In a new post published on the official PlayStation Blog, the game's director, Cory Barlog, has announced that the game is set to be released on April 20.

The post also included a new gameplay trailer which gives us an insight into the game's story and the quest that Kratos has embarked upon.

Those who pre-order the game from GameStop or EB Games will also receive the Luck of Ages XP boost, which grants +10 luck and an extra Enhancement Slot.
