“dark souls” publisher Bandai Namco this week released a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming action role-playing game “Code Vein.” The upcoming game is scheduled for a simultaneous global launch in 2018 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
According to GameRant, the company has released a new gameplay trailer during the ongoing Japanese convention Anime Expo in Japan. The newly released trailer provides the closest look at the game’s combat features, beyond what some of the direct footage gave at the recent E3 2017 demo. In the new trailer, Bandai Namco takes the opportunity to provide an overview of the game’s main features, which were not mentioned at E3 2017.
The Souls game
Developed by From Software and published by Bandai Namco, “Dark Souls” is an action RPG that was developed for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The game was first released in Japan in September 2011, followed by the global launch the following month.
When released, the Souls game quickly received critical acclaim, with critics and gaming sites praising its combat depth along with intricate world design. It's now considered to be one of the best video games ever made and one of the most important titles released during the seventh generation of consoles.
“Code Vien” is not the only game that is said to have been influenced by “Dark Souls.” The game also has some influence on “Destiny,” “The Witcher: Wild Hunt,” “Alienation,” “Lords of the Fallen,” “Shovel Knight,” Salt and Sanctuary,” “Titan Souls,” “Nioh,” and “Enter the Gungeon.”
The newly released gameplay trailer
The newly released gameplay trailer focuses mainly on basic attacks in the new action RPG.
In the 30-second trailer, the game’s main character takes on the same enemies using various weapons. Its combat play features a slow and decisive action, something similar to the Souls game.
Additionally, the gameplay trailer showcases two different weapons; a two-handed spear, and a one-handed sword. The sword offers a much faster attack.
However, this type of melee weapon is only effective at close range. The spear, on the other hand, is slower compared to the sword but it can be used at range and is quite effective from long distances.
“Code Vein” will have swords, bayonets, halberds, and almost all kinds of different weapons that a player would need. Bandai Namco decided to add different weapons to match the games’ playing style, providing a more engaging experience for the players.

Based on the newly released trailer, one could notice that most of the combat style has been heavily influenced by two popular Souls games, “Bloodbourne" and “Dark Souls.” In fact, some gamers refer to it as a copycat of the critically acclaimed action-RPG “Dark Souls.”
The Souls’ combat style has been around ages which is why gamers could easily spot this in the new game. However, Bandai Namco has added some customization to set it apart from those Souls games and also give it a very different gaming experience. However, gamers can’t still deny the flow and pattern that they have seen in the new game, suggesting that those titles have had some influence on how Bandai Namco’s new game was designed.
“Code Vein” is planned for global release in early 2018 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Expect some more detailed information about this new game in the coming months.
