National Fried Chicken Day has arrived on July 6. It officially marks the day to celebrate the quintessential American food in the United States. It is interesting that the holiday is celebrated just two days after one of the biggest holidays ever with the Fourth of July (Independence Day.) There are many different parts to a chicken, as there are the wings, thigh, breast, and legs. Along with this, chicken can be cooked in a number of different ways, either broiled, grilled, baked, or even what can be the most delicious - fried. So, there are many options to enjoy chicken and a lot of people eat the food around the world.

The history behind the food

An article from National Day Calendar gives a quick synopsis on how the food came about and where it originated from. The article states that "Scottish immigrants brought their tradition of deep frying chicken in fat to the southern United States....fried chicken soon became a staple." The food then became modernized with spices and seasoning added and the oil used to cook it with.

The chicken has to be floured beforehand or battered, and as the article states "then pan-fried, deep-fried, or pressure- fried." This frying process creates a crispy and crunchy like skin that is amazingly good. Different oils can be used in the process such as "corn oil, peanut oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil." There are a number of ways to cook your fried chicken and each option works well.
