Have you made plans to invite friends over this weekend for a barbecue, or is your Grill your summer go-to place for all your meals? In either case, these barbecue tips are going to save you time and energy. Keep in mind, a grill can do so much more than just grill your meat. With the right equipment, you can braise, fry or simmer food on the grill as well as produce some wonderful roast vegetables.
Not trying to sound like Captain Obvious, but before you start rethinking your grill strategy you need to get to know your grill. Therefore, it is important to familiarize yourself with your grill so you can get the best result out of it. Here are four common types of outdoor grills:
- Gas Grills are the most popular type of backyard grill. They can run either on bottled propane or natural gas from your utility provider.
- Charcoal Grills use charcoal for cooking. Cooking with charcoal is more time-consuming and more expensive than a gas grill, but some people prefer the taste.
- Electric Grills are powered by electricity and cook food using heated grill plates – no fire required and lastly,
- Portable Grills which can run on propane or charcoal and are easily transported from one location to another.
Cookware
Cast-iron skillets and black steel pans are great for using on your grill.
A cast-iron skillet can, and in my opinion, should replace aluminum cookware, which has been linked to health issues. Cast iron gives you flexibility as you can also put a cast-iron pan in the oven.
The right tools
Make things easier for yourself by arranging all your seasonings and cooking utensils needed for your menu in a baking pan. Whether you are a first-time griller or an expert, you will need the basics on hand, like a pair of tongs, grill brush, spatula, and a hinged wire basket to hang on the side of your grill.
Cutting Board
Of course, your cutting board is essential when letting meat rest, or slicing your vegetables, bread, and other foods. Don't forget to bring along a roll of paper towels or a kitchen towel.
Remember your seasoning kit should include salt, pepper, and other spices needed to season your dish.
Olive Oil
Remember to include your Olive Oil for vegetables so you can put some on before or even after adding them to the grill.
When choosing your tongs, long tongs are much better as they will keep your hands from getting too close to the fire. Remember to include your fish spatula when cooking seafood. When you are prepared and have everything you need around you, it not only saves time but allows you to enjoy the cooking experience without running back and forth to the kitchen.
