Due to the Coronavirus, professional sports have been put on hold as people are told to go into self-quarantine to prevent the virus from spreading to more people. While no sports have been boring for players and fans, some players and teams benefit from the suspension of games as some players and teams can rest up and potentially do better when their season resumes. Here are the beneficiaries as sports is put on hold.
Vladimir Tarasenko
Tarasenko suffered a shoulder injury that likely would have ended his season, but he will be able to come back with the season on hold. When he was healthy, he had 10 points in as many games. [image source: Michael Miller- Wikimedia Commons]
Jake Guentzel
Like Tarasenko, Guentzel suffered a shoulder injury and wouldn't have returned in the regular season for the Penguins. He had 20 goals and 23 assists in 39 games played. [image source: Michael Miller- Wikimedia Commons]
Dougie Hamilton
Hamilton broke his leg, which would have sidelined him for a long time. With the season not happening for a while, Hamilton could make a return to the lineup. He had 40 points in 47 games.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets were fighting to stay in a playoff spot, but they currently occupy the seventh seed and could be a lot better when the season resumes as they could have Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving back in the lineup and playing together for the first time.
Klay Thompson
Thompson may be able to play this season after tearing his ACL in the finals last year.
DeMarcus Cousins
Cousins was signed by the Lakers at the beginning of the season but suffered a season-ending injury in practice before the season even started. He was ultimately released to make room for Markieff Morris but with the season not expected to start until at the earliest June, he could help a playoff team that's in need of a big man.
Justin Verlander
The reigning AL Cy Young winner was expected to miss an opening day, but with the season pushed back at least eight weeks, he should be good to go whenever the season starts. [image source: Keith Allison- Wikimedia Commons]
New York Yankees
The Yankees were set to open the season without Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and James Paxton on their roster. Still, with opening day being delayed by at least eight weeks, they should all be good to go whenever the season starts.
Eugenio Suarez
Suarez suffered a shoulder injury in his swimming pool in the offseason, which was going to force him to miss some time, but with the season being pushed back, he should be good to go whenever the season starts. He hit 49 HR and brought in 103 runs last season.
Willie Calhoun
Calhoun was the victim of a 95 MPH fastball to the face during spring training and was most likely to be sidelined to start the season if it was originally going to start as planned on March 26 but with that no longer being the case, as he said, he expects to be ready whenever baseball comes back.
Mike Clevinger
Clevinger was going to start the season on the disabled list with a knee injury, but he should be recovered by the time the new opening day is announced. This is a huge boost for the Indians as they enter the season as a fringe contender, and having one of their best pitchers healthy in Clevinger is a huge boost.
