On Thursday, September 5, the 2019 NFL regular season will begin and two NFC North long-time rivals will clash in the Packers and Bears.

The rest of the Week 1 schedule will take place three days later on Sunday (minus the four teams will play on Monday night). Here are the five most intriguing matchups in the opening week. The whole Week 1 schedule can be found on ESPN.

1

Steelers at Patriots (Sunday Night Football)

During his illustrious career, Tom Brady has enjoyed much success against Pittsburgh and is 11-3 (including 3-0 in the postseason) against the Steelers.

2

Packers at Bears (Thursday Night Football)

Aaron Rodgers hopes to guide the Packers to postseason action for the first time in three years, and a Week 1 victory over the reigning NFC North champs would be a large step towards that goal.

3

Texans at Saints (Monday Night Football)

The Texans are now favorites to repeat in the AFC South after the surprising retirement of Andrew Luck, and the Saints are the betting favorites at +420 to win the NFC, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

4

Rams at Panthers

The health of Cam Newton’s shoulder will go a long way in determining the success of Carolina’s season, while Aaron Donald will look to pressure him throughout and start off on a good note in his quest to become the NFL’s first to win three straight Defensive Player of the Year awards.

5

Giants at Cowboys

A matchup between two of the premier young running backs in Saquon Barkley and Ezekiel Elliott, but will Elliott be in uniform for the Cowboys or still be holding out?
