John Schuhmann of NBA.com announced the results from the annual rookie survey on Monday.
This season’s rookie class took part in the survey answering questions such as who they believe will win Rookie of the Year. They were told not to vote for themselves, an NBA teammate, or a college teammate (if they did, the vote was not counted).
Here was the winner of seven different categories from the survey.
Who will be the 2019-20 Kia Rookie of the Year? Zion Williamson 35%
Arguably the most-hyped rookie since LeBron James in 2003, Williamson (selected first overall by the Pelicans) won the 2018-19 Naismith Award as Player of the year in his one year at Duke where he averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 blocks.
Which rookie will have the best career? Cam Reddish 19%
Fellow rookies were not concerned that in Reddish’s one year at Duke, he shot a ghastly 35.6 percent from the- field. Neither were the Hawks who nabbed him with the 10th overall pick.
Which rookie was the biggest steal at where he was selected in the draft? Bol Bol, Kevin Porter Jr. 19%
The 7-2 Bol, selected 44th overall by the Heat (traded to the Nuggets), averaged 21 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks in nine games for Oregon last season. Porter Jr., selected 30th overall by the Cavaliers, connected on 41.2 percent of his threes in his one year at USC.
Which rookie is the most athletic? Zion Williamson 87%
According to The Ringer, Williamson’s 45-inch vertical while being listed at 285 lbs. is way more than any other prospect listed at 240 lbs. or more. Since 2000, only Miles Plumlee and Semi Ojeleye were at least 240 lbs. and had verticles of at least 40 inches.
Which rookie is the best shooter? Tyler Herro 33%
The 13th overall pick by the Heat, Herro shot 60-169 (35.5 percent) from three-point territory in his one season at Kentucky and was nearly automatic from the charity stripe going 87-93 (93.5 percent) on free throws.
Which rookie is the best playmaker? Ja Morant 40%
In his sophomore season with Murray State in 2018-19, Morant led the nation averaging 10 assists per games. The Grizzlies took him with the second pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Which rookie is the best defender? Matisse Thybulle 37%
Playing four years collegiately at Washington, Thybulle was selected 20th overall by the Celtics (later traded to the 76ers). He was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in both his junior and senior seasons.
