As always is unfortunately the case, injuries frequently occur in the NFL.

There is already a large group of players who are already set to miss a substantial amount of time in the regular season, if not the whole year.

Here is a notable group of players who will be sidelined a while. Players such as quarterback Alex Smith who were injured last season are not included.

A whole list of player injuries can be found on ESPN.

1

Robert Alford (CB) - Cardinals

There is no timetable for his return, but Alford is expected to miss a considerable amount of time with a fractured tibia. Previously, he started 72 games over the past five seasons for the Falcons recording eight interceptions over that time.

2

Isaiah Crowell (RB) - Raiders

Crowell tore his Achilles in a late February team practice, an injury that will likely keep him out all season. He has rushed for 3,803 yards over five seasons with the Browns and Jets in his career.

3

Reuben Foster (LB) - Redskins

A torn ACL will force Foster to miss the entire season. A first round pick of the 49ers in 2017, he started all 16 of his appearances over his first two seasons and recorded 101 tackles.

4

A.J. Green (WR) - Bengals

It isn’t quite known how long Green will sit out after ankle surgery, although he is expected to miss at least some regular season games as mentioned by Pro Football Rumors. A Pro Bowler in each of his first seven seasons (finally missed out last season due to missing seven games), he has amassed 8,907 receiving yards and 63 touchdowns in his career.

5

Derwin James (S) - Chargers

The Chargers received horrible news last Saturday when it was announced that James will miss about three months after foot surgery. His rookie season in 2018 resulted in him being named a First Team All-Pro.

6

Jason Pierre-Paul (DE) - Buccaneers

Pierre-Paul’s car accident in the offseason injured his neck and will keep him out at least for the first month, or two, of the regular season. Last season, his first with the Buccaneers, the two-time Pro Bowler finished with 12.5 sacks.

7

Theo Riddick (RB) - Broncos

After being cut by the Lions, Riddick was picked up by the Broncos. Unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury which will keep him out for another 5-7 weeks. He has long been one of the best pass-catchers out of the backfield with 281 receptions over the last five seasons.

8

Jonah Williams (OT) - Bengals

The Bengals were expecting Williams to help shore up their offensive line, but that won’t be the case this season. The 11th overall pick out of Alabama needed surgery on a torn labrum and is likely out for the year.

9

Avery Williamson (LB) - Jets

In last Thursday’s preseason game, Williamson tore his ACL thus prematurely ending his 2019 season. He started all 16 games for the Jets last season and had 120 tackles and three sacks.

10

Tavon Young (CB) - Ravens

A disc issue in his neck could sideline Young for the entirety of the 2019 season. The cornerback started 17 games in his first two seasons for Baltimore and took two fumble recoveries for scores in 2018.
