This offseason has already seen a multitude of NFL players who have been suspended to begin the season.

Here are 10 notable players who will start the season off the field due to suspension. The full list of player suspensions can be found at Spotrac. Listed are how many games they will be suspended for, and also a brief blurb as to why they are suspended.

Please note that Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is not listed. He has been suspended indefinitely, but according to Pro Football Rumors, he will apply for reinstatement Monday. There could be more suspensions coming before the season begins, most notably Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill as the NFL investigates possible child abuse.

1

Dion Jordan (DE), Free agent - Ten games

The unsigned Jordan has a suspension of 10 games looming after he tested positive for Adderall. The third overall pick in 2013 has never panned out as he has spent just as much time suspended as he has on the field.

2

Kareem Hunt (RB), Browns - Eight games

The NFL’s leading rusher as a rookie in 2017, Hunt will be suspended eight games due to a video that surfaced showing him shoving and kicking a woman. He was cut by the Chiefs right after the video game out and was later picked up by the Browns.

3

Patrick Peterson (CB), Cardinals - Six games

Superstar cornerback Peterson will miss out on the first six games following his violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He has earned a Pro Bowl nod in every one of his eight seasons.

4

Chris Herndon (TE), Jets - Four games

A two-car crash that Herndon was involved in will cause him to miss the first four games, as he pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated. As a rookie in 2018, he caught 39 balls for 502 yards and four touchdowns.

5

Holton Hill (CB), Vikings - Four games

A positive test for PEDs will force Hill to not take part in action for the first four games. Undrafted in 2018, he played a large role in Minnesota’s secondary last season finishing with 36 tackles and an interception.

6

Alex Redmond (G), Bengals - Four games

By violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, Redmond will be sidelined the first four games. He started 15 games at right guard for the Bengals last season.

7

Ryan Smith (CB), Buccaneers - Four games

Due to PED use, Smith will be suspended for Tampa Bay’s first four games. He started 16 games at cornerback for the Buccaneers over the last two seasons.

8

Benjamin Watson (TE), Patriots - Four games

Watson claims he began using testosterone during his brief retirement which is a banned substance by the NFL. He will miss the first four games of his second stint with New England, a team he previously played for from 2004-09.

9

Richie Incognito (G), Raiders - Two games

A former four-time Pro Bowler, Incognito will come out of a year-long retirement, but he will be suspended the first two games due to an incident at a funeral home following his father’s death. He is expected to be the Raiders starting left guard.

10

David Onyemata (DE), Saints - One game

Onyemata was issued a summons for marijuana possession during the offseason and will be forced to sit out the first game. The defensive tackle had 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season.
