The Nebraska baseball team was on the cusp of beating Oklahoma State on Saturday night and going 2-0 in the regional. A bullpen meltdown lost that game. Then Sunday's debacle of a 16-1 loss followed close behind.

UCONN likes beating up on NU

Sunday's 16-1 loss was the worst loss in a regional for a Nebraska baseball team in exactly 40 years. UCONN has beaten NU 30-1 in those two games. That's something else.

Bullpen implodes one final time

No, the Huskers were not likely to come back in this game, but the bullpen allowed 12 hits, 12 runs and walked seven in 4.2 innings. The Pen has been an achilles heel for a lot of the season but it totally imploded on Sunday.

Gut punch or gut stab?

The Huskers were a few outs away from advancing to the Regional Championship on Saturday night. Gomes blew the save in the bottom of the 9th. Then the Huskers got outscored 15-1. Yes, losses like last night are hard to bounce back from, but the way in which the team appears to have laid down on Sunday should give fans pause.

More postseason failure

After looking like the team was finally going to break through with a Friday win, the Huskers returned to their losing ways this weekend. Head coach Darin Erstad is now 2-8 in the NCAA Tournament.

Where do we go from here?

The Nebraska baseball team finished the season in very similar fashion from its finish in most seasons under Erstad. The question now is whether or not the program has the ability to grow under the current staff. Post season bids are nice, competing for the Big Ten tournament title is nice. The question is whether or not that's enough for the program, because it appears to be the ceiling for this head coach.
