On Sunday (December 30), the 2018 NFL season came to a close with the Week 17 games. A number of running backs stayed off the field to rest for the playoffs. Meanwhile, a few got some extra time for their final game. Below are the five running backs that had the most total rushing yards this past season.

Ezekiel Elliott - Dallas Cowboys

No man had more yards on the ground this season than Ezekiel Elliott. The Dallas running back recorded 1,434 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He got to rest in Week 17 to prepare for the NFC Wild Card round.

Saquon Barkley - New York Giants

He's a frontrunner for NFL Rookie of the Year because of his stellar offensive play. The Giants may not have been playoff-worthy, but Barkley will be a star for seasons to come in NY. He tallied 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns in his debut season.

Todd Gurley - Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have a nice one-two punch as Jared Goff was among the top five quarterbacks for passing yards this season. Gurley racked up 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground, this season, as his team heads to the NFC playoffs.

Joe Mixon - Cincinnati Bengals

Fantasy owners who gambled on Joe Mixon this season did well. He finished fourth overall, with 1,168 yards on the ground. The Bengals' running back also had eight touchdowns. He and Cincinnati won't be in the postseason, but his play is a good sign for the future.

Chris Carson - Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks' Chris Carson is a force to be reckoned with as they head into the Wild Card round. Carson had 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns on 247 attempts. He also had 20 receptions for 163 yards with Seattle.
