Vegas Golden Knights 2018-19 Preview: 5 keys to success

The Vegas Golden Knights are about to begin their second season ever looking for a repeat of its success last season.

Repeating career years

The big reason the Las Vegas Golden Knights had such a good year is because a lot of castoffs had huge seasons. Players like William Karlsson are going to need to come back and show last season wasn't a fluke.

New look second line

The Golden Knights revamped their roster a bit this offseason. That includes adding Paul Stastny and Max Pacioretty. They replace David Perron and James Neal. Two players who had very good seasons a year ago. That second line is going to need to step up and still be productive for Vegas to have continued success.

Getting around Schmidt's absence

Nate Schmidt has been suspended for the first quarter of the season thanks to violating the league's drug policy. 20 games can make or break a season. The Golden Knights are going to have to find a way to overcome his absence.

Finding a new motivation

Last year, many members of the team referred to themselves as the "Golden Misfits" because they were all expansion draft pickups. This year, players have been signed and traded for. They aren't unwanted any more. They're going to need to find a new way to get excited to get on the ice.

Can they live up to expectations?

The Vegas Golden Knights came into last season as an expansion team no one saw coming. They start this year as the returning Western Conference champions. Can they live up to the new found respect?
