Top 5 movies for the box office weekend for October 12-14

A comic book star continued his stay at the top with a few new films joining the top five.


'Venom' - $35.7 million

The Marvel comics based tale of an alien symbiote taking over a reporter's body is still No. 1 with fans. Tom Hardy's crazy anti-hero romp has now earned over $142 million during its short time in theaters. Will it hold on for another week, though?


'A Star is Born' - $28 million

This film and the No. 3 may carry the most Oscar and movie awards potential of all five. It stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the fourth remake of this movie. It's also considered among the best. with Cooper at the helm. In its two weeks at the box office, this one's earned over $94 million total.


'First Man' - $16.5 million

The Neil Armstrong tale covers 1961 through 1969 and stars Ryan Gosling as the famous astronaut. It made its debut in theaters and grabbed the No. 3 spot. It reunites Gosling with Damien Chazelle from "La La Land." Could Gosling and Chazelle be up for some awards nods for this film too?


'Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween' $16.23 million

Just in time for the Halloween season, comes this kid's movie, based on R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books. It's the sequel to the original film, minus actor Jack Black. In it's debut, it made a respectable $16-million-plus, and with the holiday approaching, it should do decent in the coming weeks.


'Smallfoot' - $9.3 million

This endearing animated adventure tale continues its run in the top five. It tells the heartwarming story of a Yeti in search of proving that humans exist. Audiences seem to love the lighthearted and good-natured story it tells. During its stay at the box office, it's earned over $57 million.
