5 top highlights from the Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates game September 27

Check out just how the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0 on Thursday.

Bote's go-ahead triple

Playing third base for the Chicago Cubs, David Bote ended up driving in the winning runs when he hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the second inning. The fact that he drove a 3-2 pitch with two out only makes it better.

Lester scores the run

Starting pitcher Jon Lester scored the final run when he was driven in by Daniel Murphy. Lester scored one play after Willson Contreras was thrown out at home.

Rizzo coaches Edwards, gets out of a jam

The Cubs are going to need Carl Edwards to be this good more often. After getting into a jam in the 8th inning, Anthony Rizzo came to the mound and gave him some advice. The next pitch, Edwards forced a double play that ended the inning.

The Drop

Before David Bote's run scoring triple, there was the single by Kyle Schwarber that shouldn't have been. The Pirates right fielder let the ball fall when it should have been a catch.

The Save

Jesse Chavez has stepped up big time since coming over from the Texas Rangers. On Thursday night, he forced a ground to Anthony Rizzo for the final out. That gave Chavez his 5th save of the season and the Cubs a full game lead over the idle Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
