Buckingham Palace has announced that Princess Eugenie is engaged to her boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank. Princess Eugenie’s grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh, stated through a Buckingham Palace spokesman that they are “very pleased and wish the couple all the best.”

Who is Princess Eugenie?

27-year-old Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena is the second child of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. Prince Andrew is Prince Charles' younger brother and the third out of the four children of Queen Elizabeth.

On the Royal Family Tree, this places Eugenie as eighth in line for the throne. She’ll be pushed back to ninth in line after the birth of her cousin, Prince William’s new baby. Her parents divorced when she was six years old but they shared joint custody of her and her older sister Princess Beatrice.

She’s a princess but she works for a living

If you’ve ever watched an episode of "The White Queen" or "The Tudors," you know that in medieval times prince's and princess’ used to spend their days scheming in terms of how to get the throne for themselves. What their schemes didn’t accomplish, death due to sickness and war were other ways for royals to move up in the line of succession. Lucky for all of us, and the Royal Family, times are a bit different now and people can live long and productive lives away from royal murder plots.

Princess Eugenie earned her college degree from Newcastle University in 2012 and since then has worked for an online auction house called Paddle8 in New York, and, since 2015, she’s worked in London at Hauser & Worth Art Gallery as an Associate Director.

Who is she marrying?

The Sun reported that Jack Brooksbank has spent most of his career working in the nightclub industry and is now a brand ambassador for Casamigos Tequilla, which was co-founded by George Clooney.

Does this mean George could be at the wedding?

Wedding details

Jack popped the question to Eugenie when they were in Nicaragua earlier this month. It's said that the couple will be getting married this autumn in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, the same location as her cousin Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle which will be held earlier in May.

There has been no information yet regarding if her wedding will be broadcast on TV like Prince Harry's will be. The engagement ring is a rare type of sapphire called padparadscha and it is surrounded by diamonds. It's up to Eugenie whether or not she takes her husband's last name, but no matter what she's still a princess.
