Nowadays, it's so easy to get caught up with all the negativity that's going on in politics and even entertainment. But amidst all the chaos and sadness that politics and conflict bring, it's nice to see that some people haven't lost touch of what it means to be human beings and the values that we should be teaching our children. In Beachwood, Ohio, one child showed his big heart when he decided to give up his Xbox in exchange for over 60 blankets to donate to the homeless.
Child forgoes his expensive console for blankets
USA Today reported that nine-year-old Mikah Frye saw the homeless out in the cold a few weeks ago, which made him decide to forego a $300-worth Xbox to purchase more than 60 blankets for the homeless instead.
He felt the need to give back to the community as he and his family were once in the same predicament. Back in 2014, the family lost their home and was forced to temporarily live in an emergency shelter.
The Fryes donated the blankets to Access Program, the same shelter that helped them out during their time of need. The blankets also came with a message of hope from Frye himself, who wrote, "Today, I live in my own house, and someday you will too. Your friend Mikah." Frye's grandmother, Terry Brant told FOX 8 that "[Mikah] knew what it was like to not have a blanket at night and have to give it back. So the first thing he wanted to do is give a blanket that they could keep."
Kindness doesn't go unnoticed
Microsoft, the company behind the massively successful XBox consoles, took notice of Mikah Frye's good deed that they decided to give him a Christmas gift.
According to FOX 8, Microsoft set up a gift-giving surprise for Frye at Beachwood Place in Ohio, where Frye was given two big bags filled with gifts by Santa himself. Of course, one of the big bags contained an Xbox for Frye. There was no dry eye in the room, as the young boy opened his presents and basked in the kindness he was given after his act of generosity.
Microsoft gives their biggest donations yet
This year marked the first time that Microsoft has given the largest amount to charity in its existence. According to The Guardian, Microsoft donated a staggering $4.6 billion. The world's richest man, Bill Gates, donated 64 million Microsoft shares, as per a listing in the US Securities & Exchange Commission.
While the recipient of the donation has not been disclosed, speculation says that it was received by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which was set up to address poverty and global healthcare issues.
