Dream Theater is one of the top progressive metal bands in the world. Known for their complex music and odd time signatures, the band has been sustaining for more than 25 years. Back in 2010, co-founding member and drummer Mike Portnoy left the band for various reasons. It has been almost seven years since Portnoy's departure. Portnoy leaving the band has been devastating for many fans, and some still believe that there could be a reunion.
Dream Theater continued their journey with Mike Mangini, who replaced Mike Portnoy after his departure. The American metal band has introduced a new style of music and is known to be one of the best bands in the country.
In a recent interview, Mike Portnoy touched upon his other bands and the chances of a reunion with the band.
Portnoy says he would reunite for the sake of fans
There is no doubt that Dream Theater has one of the most loyal fan followers. Portnoy says that he has no longing to reunite with the band, but he could do it for the sake of all their fans. " The ball is in their court, to be honest. I have no longing to reunite with them; it's not something I necessarily am looking to do or want to do, he said.
Being a band for 25 years has brought fond memories to all its members. Mike further explained that he would not refuse if an opportunity arises. All the members of the band including guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess, and vocalist James Labrie have been on the long road with Mike right from the "Majesty" days.
Dream Theater first known as "Majesty" has a lot of sentimental memories with each other. Portnoy mentioned that he is a sentimental person and he would love to reunite with Transatlantic or OSI, and if things take a turn, he would not refuse to play with the band once more.
Mike Portnoy plays for eighty-seven bands
While talking about a reunion, the progressive drummer mentioned that he is content and satisfied with all the 87 bands he has working.
At this moment Portnoy is touring the world playing shows with the Shattered Fortress. The band members include Eric Gillette, Richard Henshall and Charlie Griffiths on guitar, Ross Jennings on vocals, Diego Tejeida on keyboards, and Connor Green on bass.
On the other hand, Dream Theater is currently doing their "Images and Words" world tour. As for Portnoy, his plate is full at the moment with other projects and world tours. One thing that is certain is many fans are expecting a Dream Theater concert with Mike Portnoy.
