"Good Morning America" reported July 9, that Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband had welcomed a new baby and readers were unilaterally underwhelmed. In fact, responses to the "Counting On" stars' second child were overwhelmingly negative. The tone of the comments ranged from critical to downright caustic. The reality television stars have been oddly quiet since baby's birth. Does it have anything to ABC readers' backlash at the Duggar family?
Duggar family tight-lipped over newest member?
GMA showed a picture of Derick Dillard and his newest son Samuel Scott Dillard.
The story gave details on the "Counting On" mom's birth after a 40-hour labor, stats on little Sam (9 pounds, 2 ounces, 22 inches) taken from Derick's Instagram. But there were no pictures of Jill Dillard. The happy dad promised to share more pictures on social media later. But four days later, there's not been many updates on the newest "19 Kids and Counting" family member. Fans are wondering why and the comments on the article provide a clue.
GMA readers blast Duggars' "population explosion"
Usually, a birth is something to celebrate. But Yahoo! and ABC readers had few nice words and a lot of nasty ones over this one. Josh Duggar and the pedophilia and incest scandal were rehashed. But along with that egregious issue, the "Counting On" family as a whole was blasted.
Mom Michelle Duggar was slammed as a baby breeder and dad Jim Bob Duggar was scolded for his gospel of over-population. Jill and Derick were blasted for drinking the family Flavor Aid and adding to the "19 Kids and Counting" clan.
Derick and Jill Dillard get more than they were "Counting On"?
Some comments faulted the "homophobic" Duggars for their anti-LGBT agenda.
The hypocrisy of hating gays and lesbians while harboring a pedophile was noted. Most readers were simply annoyed that ABC reported on Jill Dillard's birth as if it was a big deal. They insulted Derick Dillard and proclaimed themselves fed up with reading about Reality TV stars like the Kardashians.
Jill and Derick tired of negativity or just tired?
Like it or not, reality TV stars are celebrities. When Jessa Seewald had her baby recently, the Internet crowd went wild. And in fairness, the "Counting On" couple posted on Instagram and ABC shared the picture. Further, no one made anyone click. But Yahoo! commenters are notorious for pouncing on such an article, rushing to the comments section and ranting like someone held a gun to their heads till they read. Is this hostility keeping the "19 Kids and Counting" parents in hiding? Probably what's more likely is that after 40 hours of labor, Jill just wants rest.
