US Weekly recently reported that Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle had a significant meeting with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. PopSugar pointed out that Royal Marriages Act says that the prince should ask permission from the Queen before major personal milestones such as engagements and weddings.
Prince Harry’s brother Prince William went through the same process of asking for the Queen’s permission when he was dating his wife Kate Middleton.
Meanwhile, US Weekly suggested that the meeting with the Queen may have been about an engagement announcement that will be made soon.
However, there has been no official confirmation yet about either a proposal or an engagement.
What exactly happened
US Weekly also reported that the meeting of “Suits” actress and Queen Elizabeth II took place in the first week of September, just after Prince Harry and Markle visited Africa for a vacation. During their trip to the continent, fans speculated across social media, that the prince had already proposed to the actress.
The couple visited Birkhall in Scotland’s Aberdeenshire with Harry's father Prince Charles and stepmom Camilla Parker Bowles. It was originally a tour but they took advantage of being in the area to introduce Markle to the Queen, the entertainment website wrote.
They met with Queen Elizabeth II at her summer villa in Balmoral Castle which was several miles away from Birkhall a day after they arrived in Scotland.
Sources told US Weekly that Markle’s meeting with her boyfriend’s grandmother “went well” and was “the first of many encounters.”
The weekend meeting was reportedly a success, and the prince “was able to introduce someone he loves to someone” close to his heart such as his grandmother, the insider added.
Prince Harry and Markle’s relationship
Meghan Markle recently went public about her relationship with Prince Harry and said that they are both in love with each other. The actress recently spoke out in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, revealing that the media attention has been far greater since she began dating the prince.
In August, the 36-year-old actress celebrated her birthday with Harry in a trip to the Lewa Wildlife Conservatory in Kenya. The two went boating on the lake, camped under the night sky and strolled around the sanctuary in the dawn. They stayed in a log cabin for their vacation home.
The actress noted how things have changed ever since she entered into a relationship with a member of the royal family. But despite these changes she always has the support of Prince Harry, she told Vanity Fair.
