Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2 has appeared in many forms of leaks in the past, giving fans an idea about its design and specs. The firm is expected to introduce its second-gen smartphone at an event on September 11. Just ahead of the launch, an alleged image of the device’s front panel has surfaced online. The image confirms that the handset will pack thinner bezels in comparison to the original Mi Mix. This falls in line with the announcement Xiaomi’s CEO made last week.

Leaks suggest thinner bezels

According to a report by Gizbot, citing information provided by leak-based website SlashLeaks, the sides, top and bottom bezels are considerably thinner on Mi Mix 2.

The look appears to be identical to Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. There is cut-out for a physical home button on the front panel, either which leads the fans to believe that the fingerprint scanner might be located on the rear panel. There are also chances that the feature may be integrated under-the-display. Presence of capacitive buttons could not be made out from the leaked image due to the placing of the device. It is unknown whether the firm even plans on including them. The handset is expected to hit the Chinese market first, followed by the rest. It might release in the US by the end of the September.

Xiaomi utilized a metal-ceramic mix to build the original Mi Mix handset. As pointed by Android Headlines, the chances of them using the same material for its successor, are high.

The firm will be seen joining hands with Qualcomm again, as Mi Mix 2 is speculated to be powered by Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor.

Here are the specifications and features

The leaked image also confirms large display rumors involving Mi Mix 2. The handset packs a 6.4-inch large panel, but it’s unclear whether Xiaomi will opt for LCD or Led technology.

At the same time, its arch-rival Apple is believed to opt for LED technology for its upcoming iPhone 8. The firm’s 10th-anniversary device is going to be unveiled on 12 September, a day after the Mi Mix 2 launch. This gives Xiaomi an upper hand over Apple, especially on its home ground. The company may introduce two storage variants with Mi Mix 2 – 6GB RAM/128GB ROM and 8GB RAM/256GB ROM.

The flagship will most probably be running on the latest Android update with MIUI 9 skin on top. For now, what is known for sure is that the handset will run Nougat. But, since Oreo has already been announced, fans are hoping to see that on Mi Mix 2.
