The Galaxy Note 8 has been released across the United States and most Samsung fans have already picked up a unit of the latest phablet. However, even prior to the release of the Galaxy Note 8, there were rumors of the Galaxy S9 smartphone from the South Korean company, which is expected to be released during the first half of 2018. Now a new design concept of the impending Galaxy S9 has been revealed through a YouTube video that shows the iPhone X-like Notch on the top of the display.

What does the concept show?

Samsung has been working toward the ultimate bezel-less design through its premium range of smartphones.

The Galaxy S8 duo and the Galaxy Note 8 are a great step in this direction, but these handsets still sport thin bezels on the top. According to YouTube channel DBS Designing, the Galaxy S9 may change this aspect completely.

The video shows that Samsung may imitate the design aspect of its Galaxy S9 from the iPhone X to be released this year. The iPhone X nearly eliminates all bezels by incorporating a 'notch' feature on the top of the display. This notch is a small cutout area of the display panel, where the selfie camera and all other sensors are placed. This eliminates the need for a thin strip of bezels on the top that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 sport.

The recent video shows how the Galaxy S9 may incorporate the notch design feature next year.

It reveals that the Samsung handset's notch may not look similar to that of the iPhone X. In fact, the notch in the Galaxy S9 would be much more beautiful in the aesthetic sense and would not look too intrusive. Icons representing the time and date can be seen on the left side of the notch, while the icons displaying signal strength, Wi-Fi connectivity, and more on the right side of it.

The concept device can be seen sporting a 3.5 mm jack as well instead of only the USB C.

A patent filed by Samsung in 2016 also revealed that it has plans for incorporating the notch design on its handsets. However, it is not certain whether the feature will debut in the Galaxy S9 handset or if Samsung will introduce in a later smartphone.

It is still too early to speculate on the design aspects of the impending smartphone.

Expected specs of the device

According to XDA Developers, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will retain 4 GB of RAM, similar to their predecessors. However, both of these handsets will likely be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 845 chipset. The handsets are also said to retain the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
