Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with 6GB RAM and Bixby AI assistant was launched at the Unpacked event held in New York on August 23. During the launch event, several product team members demonstrated the core features of the smartphone. The phone is currently available for pre-order starting at $929.99 via AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon and US Cellular including an unlocked variant with attractive exchange options. As part of the launch offer, the company is offering a Gear 360 VR headset, memory card and a wireless charging dock free of cost for all customers who pre-order the device.

Display

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a 6.3-inch QHD+ (1440x2160) Super AMOLED curved Infinity display panel with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9, which helps users to experience rich visuals. The handset also ships with an improved S Pen, which includes a sharp tip coupled with enhanced sensitivity of pressure.

Performance

Samsung has integrated the Exynos 8895 processor for the Galaxy Note 8 units shipped to the US and UK coupled with 6GB RAM and 64GB of expandable internal storage. The handset will be available with Snapdragon 835 processor in other markets. The addition of 6GB RAM is a huge bonus as users can play games without any lags. The 64GB storage will be sufficient for storing plenty of files and media content including the capability to expand the storage up to 256GB.

Camera

While the rear side features a 12MP dual camera, the front portion bears an 8MP camera sensor. Samsung has infused support for Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on not only the wide-angle but also the telephoto lens. On the front, the handset carries an 8MP camera with support for 2x optical zoom and OIS.

Battery

Powered by a 3300mAh battery, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also provides support for not only fast speed but also for wireless charging capabilities.

According to Samsung, the product team has conducted a rigorous testing to ensure that the battery won't explode like in the Note 7.

Advanced features

The Galaxy Note 8 has been designed using a combination of metal and glass and retains the conventional headphone port. Furthermore, the handset ships with support for dust and water resistance via IP68, Iris scanner, fingerprint sensor and Bixby AI digital assistant.

Operating platform

Even though Google has officially launched Android 8.0 Oreo, the newly launched Note 8 comes pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat on top of a customized UI. However, we expect the company to roll out Oreo by the end of 2017. Samsung also embedded Bixby AI-based digital assistant, which can be accessed using a dedicated button located on the sidebar.

Available in Midnight Black and Orchid Grey color variants, the Galaxy Note 8 is priced at $929.99 in the US. The company is also offering a monthly installment package at $38.75 per month for 24 months. Samsung also announced the availability of the Maple Gold and Deep Sea Blue color within the next few days.
