In December 2016, Finnish company HMD Global announced its plans to develop and market the nokia brand. Since then, they have become the home of Nokia phones. They have released three smartphones and five feature phones in their lineup. This year, the independent enterprise is slated to make its way further into the global smartphone market with the next generation of Android phones carrying the Nokia name.
Today, the company unveiled its latest and most important new handset, the Nokia 8. With Samsung, Apple, and Huawei dominating the modern smartphone era, the launch serves as HMD Global's attempt to write the next chapter for Nokia products.
Earlier this year, users and consumers received the nostalgia-inducing remake of the classic Nokia 3310 feature phone with much enthusiasm. Could its first flagship smartphone deliver on the same terms?
Special features
The Nokia 8 boasts amazing features that are designed to capture the world around us. It has a polished aluminum body, dual camera with Zeiss optics, high-resolution 5.3-inch screen, and surround sound audio recording capability. For this next handset, the company is pushing what they refer to as the next evolution of the selfie, the "bothie." This unique offering uses Nokia's Dual Sight technology to utilize both the rear and front-facing cameras at the same time. In addition, it has the ability to simultaneously shoot videos or capture photos of a subject and the phone user, which can be shared live on social networks.
HMD Global also entered a partnership with Carl Zeiss with an official announcement made on July 6. The aforementioned cameras were co-developed with Zeiss optics. Nokia 8 has dual 13-megapixel cameras at the back of the phone. This technique of computational photography has been pioneered by Apple, Google, Huawei, and LG, and it is exciting to see how Nokia will employ the same in its smartphones.
