Asus Zenfone 4 series has been officially launched at the We Love Photo event in Taiwan on August 17. In addition to the standard variant, the Taiwan-based technology giant also unveiled Pro, Selfie, Selfie Pro, Max and Max Pro variants of the Zenfone. Previously, the company had launched the Zenfone AR and Zoom S variants. The highlight of the new smartphone series is the addition of the Dual Camera mechanism on the rear side and Android 7.1.1 Nougat based on ZenUI 4.0. Moreover, the company has also integrated dual cameras on the front in the selfie model.
The company will also push an update to Android O by the end of 2017.
ZenFone 4 and Pro
To be available in Mint Green, Midnight Black, and Moonlight White color variants, the Zenfone 4 features a 5.5-inch FHD Ips Display, Snapdragon 630/660 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM powered by a 3300mAh battery. While the 4GB RAM model is equipped with a 64GB internal storage, the 6GB RAM variant bears a 64GB storage capacity. On the rear, the phone carries a dual camera comprising of 12MP and 8MP Sony IMX362 OIS sensors paired with an 8MP selfie camera.
Meanwhile, the Pro variant of the Zenfone 4 comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage powered by a 3600mAh battery.
The rear side features a 12MP and 16MP dual camera sensors with support for OIS, laser autofocus and 2X optical zoom. The phone offers an 8MP front camera. In addition to Wi-Fi, the handset also provides support for Bluetooth, NFC, USB Type-C fast charging port in addition to a fingerprint sensor located on the front. The phone will be available in Pure Black and Moonlight White color variants.
Zenfone 4 Selfie and Pro
Both handsets are equipped with a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display, 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, 16MP rear camera powered by a 3000mAh battery. The Selfie model ships with an HD display, Snapdragon 430 processor alongside dual camera consisting of 20MP and 8MP sensors on the front. However, the Pro model offers an FHD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 processor alongside 24MP DuoPixel camera (marketing gimmick, real 12MP) with dedicated LED flash and 12MP secondary camera on the front.
The Selfie model is packaged with the SelfieMaster app and will be capable of extending the storage up to 2TB.
Zenfone 4 Max and Pro
Asus also launched the Zenfone 4 and Pro models with special importance to the battery and backup. The common specifications of both the handsets are the addition of a 5.5-inch HD display, Snapdragon 425/430 processor, 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM coupled with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage respectively. The key highlight of the Max variant is the integration of a massive 5000mAh battery, which is capable of delivering two days of backup upon mixed usage.
While the Max ships a 13MP and 12MP wide angle secondary camera setup, the Zenfone 4 Max Pro feature a 16MP camera on the rear.
When it comes to the front, the Max model comes with an 8MP front camera and the Pro model provides a 16MP selfie camera.
Pricing
Asus Zenfone 4 is priced at $399, while the Pro variant will be available at $599. The Selfie and Selfie Pro models will be priced at $279 and $379 respectively. Even though the Zenfone 4 Max features a 5000mAh battery, the handset is priced at $235, which is lower than other models. Asus will announce the pricing of the Zenfone Max Pro at the local launch events expected to be held over the span of the next three months. The handsets will be initially released in Taiwan followed by the US, Europe, India and other emerging markets.
