Google’s Pixel handsets were the most loved and appreciated high-end devices that launched back in 2016. The positive response from fans led Google to dream bigger this year, and the rumors indicate that the company is working on three new handsets to be launched in 2017 tentatively named Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and Pixel 2 XXL. There have been many speculations and rumors regarding the possible specs of all of these smartphones, but Google has yet to officially confirm any of them.
However, a new rumor has been going around the last few days.
This rumor mainly addresses which processor will be powering the handsets. However, this is once again pure speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Snapdragon 836 to power Google Pixel 2
The new rumor indicates that Google will include the yet to be released Snapdragon 836 inside its upcoming handsets. The new chipset from Qualcomm will be succeeding the Snapdragon 835, and is expected to provide slightly better performance than the Snapdragon 835. The rumor also states that the Snapdragon 836 SoC will be debuting inside the Google Pixel 2.
Earlier reports had claimed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be powered by the new chipset and that Qualcomm will launch it alongside the phablet from the South Korean company.
However, if the new report is to be believed then the Galaxy Note 8 may be shipping with Snapdragon 835 instead. This is not the first time that Qualcomm has introduced a new chipset alongside a Google device.
Back in 2016, the chipmaker announced that it would be debuting the brand new Snapdragon 821 SoC inside the Google Pixel duo that were released at that time.
The Snapdragon 836 is expected possess the same CPU and GPU specifications that the Snapdragon 835 boasted. However, the main difference will most likely lie in the clock speeds of both the chipsets, with the newer variant sporting higher clock speeds than the older one.
It must once again be reminded to readers that the assertions made here are based on unconfirmed reports and rumors.
Google has not revealed anything about its impending handsets yet and will do so in the coming months. The smartphones are expected to be unveiled by fall this year.
Other possible Pixel 2 features
Not much is known about the three impending Google phones. Speculations suggest that the smallest handset has been codenamed Walleye, while the bigger one is known as Taimen. The third and largest smartphone has been codenamed Muskie.
