Deviating from its long-reigning pattern of launching tablets in pairs, Asus unveiled the ZenPad 3S 10 alone at the recently concluded MWC (Mobile World Congress). As expected, the large tablet didn't remain alone for too long. The Taipei-based tech behemoth has launched the small variant of the 10-inch slate dubbed as the ZenPad 3S 8.0.

Rather than sticking to introducing practically every category at its Computex-opening keynote events, Asus took an entirely different path at this year's Taipei International Information Technology Show debuting in a more subdued and intense manner.

Contrary to tech pundits' predictions that suggested the company will launch large tablets of tedious smartphones, VR headsets, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, desktops et al, the company laid emphasis on a bunch of ultraportable computers, also touching upon the looming availability of the ZenFone AR.

Much to the delight of tech enthusiasts, the company had showcased a brand new Android slate as well, without much fanfare, press release or hushful appearance on the OEM's (original equipment manufacturer) local website. A hawk-eyed Computex 2017 attendant, renowned on Twitter (@WinFuture) and German tech publication WinFuture, spotted the Asus ZenPad 3S 8.0 bearing the Model Number Z582KL.

The attendee snapped a slew of photos of the device as well as its specification sheet.

Notably, this is not a radical upgrade over the 2016's ZenPad 3 8.0, which came bearing model number Z581KL.

The 3S 10 Vs. The 3S 8.0 - Specifications & Features

As the name clearly indicates, the 3S 8.0 is relatively smaller than the ZenPad 3S 10; however, it still boasts some specs that surpass its larger sibling. For instance, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor fires up the 3S 8.0, while the 3S 10 packs the Snapdragon 650 CPU, under the hood.

Moreover, the smaller slate comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of internal memory. A low-priced version of the device will be up for grabs as well. Packing 3GB of RAM, the aforesaid model will offer the same storage capacity. The tablet uses a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. In terms of optics, the slate sports a 13MP main camera and a 5MP front shooter for the selfie addicts.

Price and availability

Asus has kept details regarding the 3S 8.0's price and availability under wraps. However, there's hearsay that it will come running on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system straight out of the box.
