The Nebraska football team continues to plumb the JUCO depths looking for talent that can help them in the very near future. The latest offer that is built to fit that bill went out earlier this week to defensive back Brian George.
George has risen through the recruiting ranks quite quickly since the calendar began for 2019 and most NCAA teams started looking at getting their 2020 class as good as it can be. Obviously, one of the reasons that George is getting quite a bit of attention so far is because he's one heck of a defensive back.
Nebraska football looking to stockpile special teams
The reason the Huskers are probably as interested as they are, in the Highlands JUCO product, is that he is apparently quite a weapon on special teams. That is something the Nebraska coaching staff has been looking for since they arrived in Lincoln.
Special teams have been one of the big weaknesses for the Cornhuskers since Scott Frost took over. One of the biggest reasons why is that it appears they've been trying to fit round pegs in square holes. There has been a concerted effort to get as many weapons on that side of the field as they can.
As a freshman defensive back for Highlands CC, he was a very good cover corner. He ended the season with 32 total tackles and even had two for loss.
While he didn't end up intercepting a pass, he did have five pass breakups.

Those are good numbers that the Huskers would obviously welcome into the fold on the defensive side of the ball.
Then you take a look at what he did on special teams. It doesn't appear he was the first option for the squad when the season began.
He didn't have a kick or punt return until the fourth game of the season. When he did get an opportunity, he was pretty darn good. In total, he had 17 kick returns for 266 yards. That wasn't great, but it was a tad better than what the Nebraska football team was able to do in 2018.
Where he showed some real wheels, though he didn't get a ton of chances, was on punt return. He had a nice 74-yard punt return for a touchdown last season and that's something that has to wet the Husker coaches whistles when it comes to looking for help on that side of the ball.
Brian George getting Power 5 offers rolling in
The Nebraska football team is one of the latest but not the only big-time school looking to add the JUCO defensive back. George has also gotten offers from Auburn and Texas Tech. When a player is getting that kind of attention, it's more than likely that he'll be getting even more attention soon.
