The 2019 Laver Cup edition promises to recreate a unique doubles team as two of the biggest players in Tennis history will team up once more. According to Reuters, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will join forces for Team Europe as the third edition of this tennis event take shape.
Rafael Nadal (2 ATP) and Roger Federer (3 ATP) hold an impressive rivalry between them while being close friends outside the competitive field. Together they've won 37 Grand Slam tennis tournament. According to their official head to head, the first ever encounter between them took place in Miami, back in 2004.
The 2019 Laver Cup will take place in Geneva, a place Roger Federer is so familiar with. Now, with Nadal on his side, the pair might want to secure another title for their team. The event is set to take place in the 17 000-seat Palexpo venue near the shores of Lake Leman.
Laver Cup format is growing bigger and stronger
Launched back in 2017, the Laver Cup is a tribute Roger Federer and other influential names in tennis decided to pay to the legendary Aussie, Rod Laver. The tournament opposes two teams in a three-day competition. Team Europe is set to take on Team World in a tennis contest that seems to transcend exhibition event-type boundaries.
The inaugural edition took place at the O2 Arena in Prague and saw Team Europe as the eventual winner.
That 2017 edition was a historic one as Roger Federer partnered with Rafael Nadal for the very first time in their career.
The second edition took place on American soil, in Chicago. Once again, a premiere took place as Roger Federer teamed up with Novak Djokovic, also a first time experience.
Now, the 2019 edition returns to Europe and Roger Federer will have Rafael Nadal on his side.
