There has been a lot of news around the NFL with New York Giants star Victor Cruz choosing to retire and become an analyst for ESPN, along with the league's new helmet rule. It remains to be seen what will happen with the anthem protests due to the new rule allowing players to stay in the locker room for the anthem/possibly getting fined for protesting while on the field.

The value of quarterbacks has only risen in the NFL. Without a good QB, a team can only go so far. One of the best in the game, Aaron Rodgers agreed to a groundbreaking deal to stay with the Green Bay Packers.

Record deal

According to Bleacher Report: "The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a four-year contract extension with quarterback Aaron Rodgers worth $134 million, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network." Not only is it a lucrative contract, but Rodgers will be getting a lot of money, with $80 million guaranteed between now and March.

It was reported that the team and Rodgers were nearing a deal and that both parties wanted to get this done.

The deal will make the quarterback the highest paid in the league. Bleacher Report mentions that Matt Ryan signed a deal over the offseason for $100 million guaranteed.

More importantly, the new deal will keep Rodgers with the team until 2023 -- according to SBNation. The QB will be about 40 years old when the deal is up. Aaron Rodgers is not the only one who has gotten paid, as New York Giants star wide-receiver Odell Beckham Jr. recently got a huge deal done.

Coming back from an injury

Aaron Rodgers will be coming back from an injury that plagued him last season as he suffered a broken collarbone against the Vikings in Week 6.

The two-time NFL MVP will be looking to come back even stronger and with weapons at his disposal, as the team acquired Jimmy Graham over the offseason, they have Randall Cobb, and they signed rising wide-receiver Davante Adams.

There is some risk with the injuries that Aaron Rodgers has suffered, but the team knew that they wanted to lock up their franchise QB. Without him, the Packers have been pretty lackluster. The team's issue has been defense, which has been at the bottom of the NFL for quite some time now.

It is widely known that Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the league today, just behind Tom Brady. It remains to be seen whether Rodgers can win a championship during the next four years.

As Rodgers has shown before, with him on the team, they definitely have a shot.
