NBA rumors indicate Paul George will re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder. This is huge news for Okc, as the team now retains the same big three from the 2017-18 NBA season. Carmelo Anthony recently opted into the final year of his contract and Russell Westbrook remains under a long-term deal with the franchise. Now, a report by ESPN states that George will re-sign with the Thunder to go after the Golden State Warriors again.

Paul George happy with OKC

When news came out that the L.A. Lakers were targeting DeMarcus Cousins, it started to open the door for Paul George to sign with another franchise.

An article by ESPN just confirmed which team George wants to play for. The article reads, "Paul George has committed to signing a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski." That's huge news for a franchise that is still trying to recover from when Kevin Durant left in free agency to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

The article goes on to state that, "With many assuming the Los Angeles Lakers were the unquestioned favorite for George, his decision to stay with the Thunder comes as a bit of a shock." The breaking news has led to a lot of celebration by Thunder fans on social media, as this is huge for the franchise. Rather than losing George for nothing in return, which was the risk the franchise took by not dealing him before the last NBA trade deadline, the team will instead retain is services.

The dominos begin to fall

There had been a number of NBA rumors about the L.A. Lakers possibly trying to land Paul George, LeBron James, and Kawhi Leonard during the offseason. By George stating that he will re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, it marks the first of the large dominos that will fall in the next few days. While this doesn't close the door on all the plans of the Lakers, it does make more sense why the team has so much interest in Cousins now.

The franchise could still look to land Cousins and James in free agency and then try to trade for Leonard from the San Antonio Spurs.

During his first season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Paul George averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He started 79 games for the team and was an important piece when the playoffs got started.

Still, when the OKC Thunder had played their last game of the 2018 NBA Playoffs, it felt like the team still had something to prove. Now, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony can re-group and make another run at things during the 2018-19 NBA season.
