The 2018 Preakness Stakes will take place for the 143rd time on Saturday, May 19 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. All eyes once again will be on Kentucky Derby winner Justify, who will try to complete the second leg of the Triple Crown races.

Triple Crown dreams

The Triple Crown is one of the most elusive prizes in horse racing. Statistically speaking, capturing the Triple Crown of horse racing is the hardest thing to do in all of sports. The feat has only been pulled off 12 times in over 140 years of thoroughbred racing. To win the Triple Crown a horse must win the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes.

Can Justify win tomorrow evening and capture the second leg of the Triple Crown? The field is much smaller than it was two weeks ago in Kentucky, but a few horses have a shot at taking down the undefeated, reigning derby champ.

The field

According to the New York Times, Justify will start from the No. 7 hole in this race that features just eight horses. The early morning line odds are out, so let’s break it down!

1. Quip -- Odds: 12-1

  • Jockey: Florent Geroux

A horse you can't sleep on. Look for 12/1 to fall before post time.

2. Lone Sailor -- Odds: 15-1

  • Jockey: Irad Ortiz Jr.

Irad Ortiz is one of the best in the business.

3. Sporting Chance -- Odds 30/1

  • Jockey: Luis Contreras

Has a big win in the Hopeful in Saratoga, but the consistency hasn't been there. The talent to pull off the upset is there.

4. Diamond King -- Odds 30/1

  • Jockey: Javier Castellano

Diamond King has finished in the money in five of his six races.

5. Good Magic -- Odds 3/1

  • Jockey: Jose Ortiz

On paper, this horse is the biggest threat to Justify.

6. Tenfold -- Odds 20/1

  • Jockey: Ricardo Santana Jr.

Tenfold finished fifth in the Arkansas Derby, but he doesn't have much experience under his belt. He could shock in an 8-field race.

7. Justify -- Odds 1-2

  • Jockey: Mike Smith

The winner.

He has the look of American Pharoah, but is his bruised heel something to really be concerned about? I don't believe so. The upside here is much larger than the down.

8. Bravazo -- Odds 20/1

  • Jockey: Luis Saez

Bravazo finished sixth at the Kentucky Derby.

Predictions, how to watch live

Can Justify win the 2018 Preakness and keep his Triple Crown dreams alive? Yep. I predicted that the rain would not stop Justify in the Kentucky Derby, and it shouldn't this Saturday at Pimlico either.

Here are my predictions for the 2018 Preakness Stakes.

Winners: Justify (7) Good Magic (5)

Trifecta: 7-5-2 -- 7-1-5

Superfecta: 1-2-5-7 -- 2-5-7-8
