Tuesday (Feb. 6) saw New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis tear his ACL, ending his year and probably forcing him to miss a good chunk of the 2018-19 season. He is one of many NBA players who will miss the remainder of the season. Here is a 12-man rotation of players who unfortunately will not suit up again this season.
Starting lineup
- PG - Mike Conley, Grizzlies
Because of a bone protrusion in his heel, Conley had season-ending surgery. He played in just 12 games this season averaging 17.1 points and 4.1 Assists Per Game. He averaged a career-high 20.5 points in 2016-17.
- SG - Dion Waiters, Heat
Due to ankle and foot issues, Waiters will not play again this season. He was scoring 14.3 Points Per Game in his 30 appearances on the season.
- SF - Gordon Hayward, Celtics
Hayward dislocated his ankle and fractured his tibia in the season opener just five minutes into his Celtics career. He made his first All-Star team with the Jazz in 2017 in a season where he averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
- PF - Kristaps Porzingis, Knicks
Porzingis was getting ready to play in his first All-Star Game and defend his Skills Challenge title until Tuesday’s unfortunate injury where he tore his ACL. He is currently leading the league averaging 2.4 blocks per game with a scoring average of 22.7 in the 48 games he played in.
- C - DeMarcus Cousins, Pelicans
On January 26, Cousins ruptured his Achilles prematurely ending his season. He had been named an All-Star for the fourth straight season. His phenomenal per game averages in his 48 outings prior to the injury were 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks.
Bench
- SG - Andre Roberson, Thunder
Roberson ruptured his patellar tendon on January 27.
While not much of an offensive threat (5.0 points per game in 39 appearances), he has been one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. He made the All-Defensive Second Team last season.
- PG/SG - Patrick Beverley, Clippers
Beverley’s torn meniscus he suffered in November ended his first season with the Clippers after only 11 games.
An All-Defensive First Team member last season, he was averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game until the injury.
- PG - Jeremy Lin, Nets
Lin had 18 points and four assists in the Nets‘ season opener until he ruptured his patellar tendon which ended his season after one game. He posted per game averages of 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in his 36 outings in 2016-17.
- PG/SG - Seth Curry, Mavericks
Curry has not appeared in a game this season, and he will miss it in its entirety after a slow-healing stress fracture in his leg caused him to need surgery. He averaged 12.8 points per game and connected on 42.5 percent of his threes in 2016-17.
- SF - Thabo Sefolosha, Jazz
An MCL injury that occurred in January ended Sefolosha’s season after 38 appearances.
Known as a strong defender, his 8.2 points per game this season are a career-high for his 12 seasons.
- PF/C - Jon Leuer, Pistons
Leuer had successful surgery on his injured ankle which he hurt after just eight games. He averaged a career-high 10.2 points per game for the Pistons in 2016-17 and had averages of 5.4 points and 4.0 rebounds this season.
- PF/C - Harry Giles, Kings
Giles, the 20th overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft, will not play this season because of knee troubles. He was the second-ranked high school recruit in 2016 according to Recruiting Services Consensus Index.
