Seattle Seahawks fans haven’t been this united since the team won the Super Bowl. Social media has exploded with positive comments from Seahawks fans on Wednesday morning (Jan. 10), making it seem like its Christmas morning for the Pacific Northwest. For many fans, that’s exactly what happened when they heard about the “present” from the Seahawks’ front office.
A report confirmed by the team states that the Seattle Seahawks have fired offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
This is a move that many Seahawks fans have been clamoring after for years and that became even more apparent during the 2017 NFL season. When the Seahawks failed to make the playoffs for the first time since Russell Wilson became the quarterback, general manager John Schneider decided to make a change.
The disastrous running game
One of the big red flags that a change would be coming was the running game of the Seahawks during the 2017 season. The team was led by a quarterback on the ground, who managed 586 rushing yards for the year. Wilson also accounted for all but one of the team’s 38 offensive touchdowns, showing how bad the ground game was for the team.
Overall, they ranked 15th in total offense.
Social media has not been kind to Darrell Bevell over the past few seasons and that continued on Wednesday. Despite being one of the keys to developing Russell Wilson as a formidable quarterback, many Seattle Seahawks fans felt that his play-calling was “vanilla.” The team often struggled to score points in the first half and that would put the Seahawks in a difficult position during the second half of games.
What’s next for the Seattle Seahawks?
There are already a number of Seahawks rumors about what the team will do with the offensive coordinator job. Current Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian has already been linked to the team.
The reason is that he spent time with the USC Trojans, just like Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. Could the tandem find success in the NFL together?

The defending Super Bowl champions had a bye in the first week of the postseason.
