Head coach Rick Carlisle and his Dallas Mavericks need all the help they can get to turn their season around. Unfortunately, one of the players expected to ease the burden is still out, and it is unknown when he can come back.

In a recent report by the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle gave an update on one of his best players, Seth Curry. The younger brother of Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry suffered a stress reaction in his left tibia which has prevented him from playing this season.

Carlisle said that Curry is "making progress" and there are "no setbacks" with his recovery. However, the one-time champion coach failed to provide a timetable for the shooting guard's return to action. Carlisle is preaching patience when it comes to this matter. Despite the uncertainty, there is good news as the report of the Dallas Morning News revealed that Curry participated in some parts of the Mavericks practice Monday. It means the 28-year-old is getting closer to his debut this season.

Improved Curry

Seth Curry's injury came at the wrong time for him and the Dallas Mavericks. The health setback halted the momentum he had coming off his best season yet in the NBA.

In July of 2016, the Mavericks gambled by granting Curry a multiple-year contract. Before Curry headed to Dallas, he struggled to land a significant role with the teams he joined. He also had a hard time staying in the NBA. Most of the organizations he signed with in the past decided to let him go after just a few games.

With the Mavericks, Curry had the opportunity to show what he can do, and he did not disappoint. Curry repaid the Mavericks with an improved game in the 2016-17 season as he averaged career-highs 12.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest. Hopefully, he can sustain this or continue to get better when he is activated. The Mavericks are hoping for a Seth Curry who is at a hundred percent as they look to salvage their season.

Familiar foe

On Tuesday, November 7, Rick Carlisle and the Dallas Mavericks captured only their second win of the season when they bested the Washington Wizards on the road, 113-99. However, they do not have much time to celebrate this rare success.

On November 11, Carlisle and the Mavericks will take on a familiar foe when they head back home to Texas. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are going to visit the Mavs at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks have a history with James. In the 2011 NBA Finals, they faced a Miami Heat squad led by the four-time MVP. The Mavericks won that series in six games to capture the franchise's first and only NBA title so far.
