At Sunday's WWE "TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2017" pay-per-view event, Finn Balor was originally scheduled to compete against his rival Bray Wyatt as part of their ongoing feud. Balor has already defeated Wyatt two previous times but this match was supposed to involve "The Demon" taking on "Sister Abigail" in the ring.
Abigail was shown on WWE "Raw" as basically the same as Bray Wyatt with a changed voice and visual special effects, so fans didn't know what to expect when Abigail made it to the ring Sunday. Unfortunately, recent news indicated that Wyatt can't compete this weekend due to possible sickness.
That created the need for a replacement opponent for Finn Balor.
Dream match
That replacement is AJ Styles from the WWE "SmackDown Live" roster. The news arrived on Friday and the WWE Universe immediately became excited over this first-time match between two top superstars in the professional wrestling. Both Styles and Balor have well-known histories in other wrestling organizations including New Japan Pro Wrestling. They're also both former leaders of The Bullet Club there.
The clash between "Raw" and "SmackDown" superstars certainly makes for an exciting situation as fans aren't quite sure what to expect. Either way, if this match goes the distance it seems like it will steal the show and be a "WrestleMania" main event-worthy bout.
Possible outcomes?
Since the match was switched from the original contest featuring Balor vs. Bray Wyatt, there are no odds for the new match that has replaced it. One would have to think if there were, they'd be very close for both superstars. It may even be a "pick em" type situation. In betting that's when it's too close to call the favorite and bettors can pick who they believe wins it.
While fans are hoping for a good singles match with a clean finish, could it possibly include some sort of outside interference? One scenario might have Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson rush in to attack the former Bullet Club leaders. From there, "Raw" GM Kurt Angle might arrive out to announce Balor and Styles vs. Gallows and Anderson in a tag match.
That way WWE teases Styles vs. Balor for a later time.
Another possibility is to have Jinder Mahal attack Styles after what went down on last week's "SmackDown Live." That would further the storyline between Styles and Mahal for the WWE Championship and keep Balor looking strong as he continues with whatever WWE has for him next.
Or the WWE could go with a draw here. There's always the possibility this match is a setup for "Survivor Series" pay-per-view where AJ Styles could be the captain for a "SmackDown Live" team and Finn Balor would captain the WWE "Raw" team. Either way, this one seems like it's going to be fun to watch unfold on Sunday night!
