Week six of the NFL season has almost wrapped up and teams are starting to assess the damage from their games. The biggest loss came to the Green Bay Packers, as they have likely lost star quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the rest of the season. The 2017-18 season has claimed arguably the league's best quarterback, after having already taken down star offensive players David Johnson and Odell Beckham Jr.
Packers likely lose Rodgers for season
In the first quarter of the Green Bay Packers' game against the Minnesota Vikings, Aaron Rodgers was hit in the midsection by linebacker Anthony Barr as he was throwing a pass on a rollout. The quarterback landed hard on his shoulder and had to be carted to the locker room after walking off the field.
Soon after, Fox's Jay Glazer was the first to report that Rodgers had broken his collarbone, an injury that the team fears will likely end his season. In 2013, he missed seven games with the same injury to his non-throwing shoulder and returned for the playoffs.
Third-year quarterback Brett Hundley will now take over at quarterback.
Jameis Winston knocked out of game
Jameis Winston was knocked out of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the second quarter and was replaced by Ryan Fitzpatrick. He took a hard hit from Chandler Jones, landing hard on his throwing shoulder.
The X-rays taken on his shoulder came back negative and he will undergo an MRI today. Winston was adamant that he would play next Sunday, saying “I don't think I'm going to miss a game.” Head coach Dirk Koetter said, “Right now, it's just too early for that,” when asked about him playing.
Leonard Fournette suffers scary looking injury
In the fourth quarter of the Jacksonville Jaguars' loss the Los Angeles Rams, Leonard Fournette's knee bent awkwardly while making a cut.
He hobbled over to the sidelines to be examined and did not return to the game. Fournette has a sprained right ankle but sources have told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the running back is expected to play next Sunday.
Emmanuel Sanders injures ankle
In the third quarter of the Denver Broncos' loss to the New York Giants, Emmanuel Sanders got hit in the legs by Landon Collins as he was diving for the football. Sanders had to be helped off of the field and did not return to the game after being looked at by medical staff. Head coach Vance Joseph said today that he has a significant right ankle sprain and said he was “week-to-week.” He was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
