The University of Georgia Bulldogs received more good news today, when four-star running back from Miami, Florida, James Cook, announced his official commitment to the Athens college. Cook is the nations' number three running back who made his announcement on Twitter, Thursday evening. Earlier this year, he had committed to Florida State, but he decided to reopen his commitment in July.
Cook decided on Georgia over Louisville, despite that being the alma mater of his brother, Dalvin Cook, who plays for the Minnesota Vikings, and is the current all-time leading rusher in the NFL.
The Georgia Bulldogs are predicted to be unstoppable in 2018 season
According to 247sports.com, Cook was the top uncommitted running back in the country, ranked as No. 3 overall, which adds to Georiga's already stacked team. Cook will be joining the No. 1 running back in the country, Zamir White, who also committed to Georgia earlier this year. The added running back pushes Georgia to No. 7 in the national rankings and second in the SEC, pushing ahead of the Florida Gators.
The 5-foot-11, 181-pound running back visited the UGA campus on September 23, after retracting his commitment to Florida State, which pushed him toward playing for the Bulldogs.
Cook will play in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Game, and the offensive powerhouse shows his agility, swiftness, and speed in his high school highlight reel.
James Cook chose Georgia for sentimental reasons
According to Cook's mother, Varondria Burnett, he chose Thursday to announce his commitment because it would have been Drequan Burnett's 20th birthday. Burnett was Cook's cousin, who passed away a little over a year ago, and his loss is still very tough on Cook and his family. Drequan, or "Quan," was killed as a result of a shooting, Burnett revealed to dawgnation.com.
The Burnetts and Cooks were very close; Dalvin Cook sported "LLQ," which means, "Long Live Quan,” during his first season with the Vikings, to honor their late cousin.
Georgia fans are excited to see Zamir White and James Cook come together between the hedges in the 2018 season. Dell McGee, UGA's running back coach, expressed his excitement over the powerful duo on his Twitter account Thursday evening, "you can't have thunder without the lightning...good thing we just added some lightning..."
Bulldog fans have one more reason to be excited for the upcoming 2018 season.
