Derrick Rose fell to injury in the second game of the 2017-18 NBA season. He was replacing Kyrie Irving as the starting point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the team needed him to play at a high level until fellow newcomer Isaiah Thomas returned from injury around Christmas. However, after Rose fell to an ankle injury, the Cavaliers have lost three of their next four games.
Derrick Rose injury update
According to Amico Hoops, Derrick Rose will finally make his return to the Cleveland Cavaliers for their Sunday game against the New York Knicks.
With the Cavaliers sitting at 3-3, they need a huge boost. While LeBron James has been taking the point guard role in Cleveland, they have struggled to win since they are still one player short when it comes to scoring options.
The Derrick Rose injury took place against the Milwaukee Bucks. The awkward fall that Rose took was following a foul by Greg Monroe where he slammed Rose in the back. The sprained ankle was the result of that hit and fall.
NBA on TNT reporter Rebecca Haarlow was who reported that Derrick Rose will play in the Cleveland Cavaliers' Sunday night game against the New York Knicks. Tyronn Lue said that while LeBron James has done well running the point guard position, the team needs Rose back to give them all their playmakers on the court at the same time.
“We don’t play with the same pace," Lue said about missing Rose in the lineup. "When you have a true point guard, they get the ball up the floor fast."
Cleveland Cavaliers Struggles
In his first two games of his Cleveland Cavaliers career, Derrick Rose averaged 13 points, 1.5 assists, and three rebounds a game. His initial replacement in Jose Calderon only scored two points and two rebounds in the one game he stepped in as the starter, playing just 14 minutes.
LeBron James did his part after that. In the next two games, LeBron James had a double-double and a triple-double. In the three games that James has taken over as the point for the Cavaliers, he has averaged 27 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds a game.
In the four games since the Cleveland Cavaliers lost Derrick Rose to injury, they have lost to the Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets, and New Orleans Pelicans.
Thier only win came against the rebuilding Chicago Bulls. Despite this, it is still early in the season and the Cavaliers, at 3-3, are only 1.5 games out of first place in the Eastern Conference.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are at home today and will host the New York Knicks. The tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CST.
