Although the Washington Redskins have a new edge with player Jordan Reed, the team continues to struggle with injuries. The Redskins are set to play the Oakland Raiders, and the team has a record of 1-1, leaving it tied with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. The New York Giants lag behind in last place. The Oakland Raiders are currently 2-0, leaving them tied with the Denver Broncos for first place in their division. The biggest struggle right now for the Redskins is that seven players are questionable to play, including running back Rob Kelley, leaving fans to wonder whether Washington is up for the game.
Rob Kelley questionable
While seven players were added to the injury list after the game with Los Angeles, the most important loss for the Redskins may be running back Rob Kelley. Redskins reported that Kelley suffered a rib injury in the game against Los Angeles last week after Washington achieved a stunning victory against the Rams. Kelley started off strong in the game when he ran for 78 yards and 12 carries. He has worked diligently to get rid of the pain from the injury including sleeping with pillows on his back and was confident he would return to the game. Kelley has played for the Washington Redskins for two years and came out of Tulane.
Other players questionable as well
WTKR reported that the status of other players would be a game-time decision.
Players who are affected by the decision include running back Rob Kelley, tight end Jordan Reed, linebacker Mason Foster, cornerback Josh Norman, and safety Montae Nicholson. Head Coach Jay Gruden said it would be up to the trainer to decide whether each player was able to play this week's game. Currently, Jordan Reed is considered to be at 70 percent compared to Jeremy Sprinkle at 100 percent, who is expected to play.
Sports Junkies reported that the Redskins defensive scheme will face huge challenges against the Oakland Raiders. This is the first primetime game of the season for the Washington Redskins against the Oakland Raiders, and both teams are coming off wins from last week. The Redskins were able to successfully run their running backs against the Rams, and Washington used its defensive scheme to disrupt quarterback Sean McVay.
The problem the Redskins face is that their running game needs to be more consistent. Once the running backs get on the same page with quarterback Kirk Cousins, it will go a long way to Redskins success on the field. The running game is so important it will help determine how well the Redskins play against the Raiders. The game will take place on the Washington Redskins home turf at FedEx Field.
