While the Nebraska football defense has been much maligned in the first two games of the season, the offense has been fairly solid, if still not spectacular. The Husker coaching staff will be hoping Tanner Lee and company can put on a show when they host the Northern Illinois Huskies tomorrow morning.
The school will be hosting a few of their top recruiting targets this weekend including one of the best offensive guards on the board for the 2019 class. If there has been one hitch in the offense's giddyup, it has been the offensive line. Over the next few years, Riley and company are going to need to make some big-time talent level improvements.
Convincing someone like Will Putnam to commit to the Huskers would be a big step in the right direction.
Nebraska football looking at four-star guard.
Putnam is among the very best in the state of Florida and getting him into Lincoln is quite the coup for the coaching staff. Putnam is ranked by Rivals as the third best guard in the entire state for the 2019 class. 247 Sports isn't quite as high as the guard but they also have him ranked as a 4-star player and the ninth best player at his position in the class.
Rivals has him ranked as the 64th best player in the class and 247 has him ranked 80th. That's why Putnam is going to be choosing from among the best schools in the country. The Nebraska football team will have some stout competition with schools like Ohio State, Georgia, and LSU going after the guard as well.
Repeat visitor for Nebraska football
The Huskers appear to at least be getting some real love from the offensive guard, considering Putnam has already come to Lincoln once. This will be the first time he'll get a look at what Memorial Stadium has to offer both those who are on the right side and those who are visiting here and trying to win a football game.
When talking about what he wants to see the most when Putnam comes to visit, he specifically talked about how happy he is going to be to see the man who would be his position coach should he join the ranks of the Nebraska football team. "Coach Mike Cavanaugh and the other coaches at Nebraska are amazing people. It's always a great time talking with Coach Cav."
Being able to forge relationships with the coaching staff is something that has been mentioned more than a few times by players the Nebraska football team is recruiting. Hopefully, that relationship can pay off in a commit by William Putnam.
