The Indianapolis Colts will start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback when they take on the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Insider, the Colts made the decision days after their 46-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. However, Colts head coach Chuck Pagano refused to confirm or deny the report, saying no decision has been made on who will start Sunday.
"We're not ready to announce it," Pagano told reporters. Brissett replaced starter Scott Tolzien at the start of the second half after he went 9-for-18 for 128 yards with two interceptions. Brissett, for his part, completed two of three passes for 51 yards.
The Colts will take a chance on Brissett despite his lack of familiarity with the team’s playbook. He was acquired by the Colts before the start of the regular season to back up Tolzien after it was determined that starting quarterback Andrew Luck will be out until October. The Colts shipped first-round draft pick WR Phillip Dorsett to the Patriots for Brissett, who was third in New England’s quarterback chart behind Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.
During Brady’s suspension last season, Brissett went 1-1 in two starts, throwing for 400 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Aaron Donald to start for Rams vs. Redskins
Rams head coach Sean McVay announced that All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald will start against the Washington Redskins, just six days after he ended his holdout and reported to the club. The 26-year-old Donald held out in an effort to force the Rams to give him a fresh contract. However, the Rams held their ground, forcing Donald to report without the new deal that he’s been asking. Donald is set to earn $1.8 million from the fourth year of his five-year rookie deal. The Rams waived the fines amounting around $1.5 million that Donald incurred during his holdout.
According to Rams defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, it will be easy inserting Donald, a known pass-rusher, into their defensive scheme.
Ravens rusher Kenneth Dixon suspended two more games
The NFL has imposed an additional two-game suspension on Baltimore Ravens running back Kenneth Dixon for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. In March, Dixon received a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. The latest suspension added to Dixon’s woes as he recently suffered a medial meniscus injury late July hat ended his season. Dixon can serve the suspension while recovering from the surgery but he won’t get paid for those games.
