As we enter week four of college football, many teams are gaining steam and planning to make a run at a spot in the College Football Playoff. The new AP top 25 was released Sunday, and a lot of movement happened in the newest poll. What might not surprise people is that Alabama remains at the top after easily handling their game this weekend. In college football, all teams live on a week-by-week basis, as one loss could drop a team out of the top 25 and a ranked win could give your team a big boost in the standings. What does the new top 25 look like?

Let's take a look.

AP top 25: week four

The top 25 for week four goes as follows

  • 1. Alabama 11. Georgia 21. South Florida
  • 2. Clemson 12. Florida State 22. San Diego State
  • 3. Oklahoma 13. Virginia Tech 23. Utah
  • 4. Penn State 14. Miami (Fla.) 24. Oregon
  • 5. USC 15. Auburn 25. LSU
  • 6. Okla. State 16. TCU
  • 7. Washington 17. Mississippi State
  • 8. Michigan 18. Washington State
  • 9. Wisconsin 19. Louisville
  • 10. Ohio State 20. Florida

Clemson was able to jump over Oklahoma in this weeks poll and snag that number two spot after a dominant win against Louisville. Louisville suffered a five-spot drop because of that loss, but they still are in the top 20. LSU took a drop as well after they were upset by Mississippi State on the road.

USC fell to number four after a close win against unranked Texas. Utah, Oregon, San Diego State, and Mississippi State are newcomers to the top 25 this week, as Tennessee, Kansas State, Stanford, and UCLA dropped outside the top 25 after they suffered tough losses.

Ranked Matchups

As far as ranked vs. ranked matchups, there aren't a lot of them planned for week four.

One of the ranked matchups is Georgia and Mississippi State. Both teams are 3-0, and this is a crucial SEC game that could have effects later in the season. Another matchup is TCU against Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State is coming into this game riding the hot arm of Mason Rudolph. He is having a Heisman season so far, and he torched Pitt with 497 yards and five touchdowns.

Top-ranked Alabama will be facing Vanderbilt in week four. Bama should have no trouble handling this opponent, but every team comes out a little bit more amped when they can take down the number one team in the country. No. 2 Clemson will be taking on ACC foe Boston College, and No. 3 Oklahoma will be facing off against winless Baylor. No. 4 Penn State will be going to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes. The top 25 is always going to be up for discussion, but these are your top 25 teams for week four. Expect some entertaining games this weekend.
