Sunday afternoon featured plenty of baseball action including Aaron Judge and the new york yankees taking on the Texas Rangers. Judge was among the New York batters who helped power a 16-7 win on Sunday. The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers started out on a relatively even pace with a 1-1 game after two innings. However, New York exploded for 10 runs over the next three innings. That included six runs in the fourth inning when Gardner hit a triple to score Ellsbury and Romine, as well as Judge's solo shot occurred.
It was Judge's 40th Home Run of the season, but the rookie was far from done.
In the top of the sixth inning, Aaron Judge smashed out a 463-footer off Yohander Mendez giving him his 41st of his rookie season. Teammate Gary Sanchez also had two home runs in the game with a solo shot in the first inning and another coming in the top of the eighth. Shortstop Didi Gregarious finished the game with four hits in his four at bats and four RBIs to help the Yankees' effort, while Judge had three. Sanchez, Brett Gardner, and pinch hitter Erik Kratz all added two RBIs apiece.
The Texas Rangers came up with seven runs today but it wasn't nearly enough to match the Yankees' explosive output. Shin Soo Choo finished the game going 1-for-5 with two RBIs, while teammate Robinson Chirinos was able to hit his 17th home run of the season in the second inning.
Left fielder Ryan Rua was 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and a run scored.
Chad Green picked up today's win on the mound for the Yankees. He worked 2.1 innings and struck out four batters he faced while giving up four hits and a run. On the opposing side, A.J. Griffin took the loss for the Texas Rangers to go to 6-6 for his season.
Griffin worked for three innings, giving up five hits and five runs during his time on the mound today.
Standings & what's next
The New York Yankees bumped their record up to 77-65 on the season with a road record of 37-38. The Yankees head to Tampa Bay to begin a series with the Rays starting Monday night at 7:10 p.m. Eastern Time.
CC Sabathia will be on the mound for New York against Jake Odorizzi.
The Texas Rangers are now 71-71 overall with a 38-32 mark at Global Life Park this season. Next up, Texas will host the Seattle Mariners on Monday night beginning at 8:05 p.m. Eastern Time. Cole Hamels will be on the mound for Texas with Ariel Miranda getting the start for Seattle.
