Today saw the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoff wrap up on the PGA Tour as two of the top players in the world, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, battled to win the Northern Trust Open. Meanwhile, on the LPGA Tour, the Canadian Women's Pacific Open was taking place as the last major of the season is only a few weeks away.

Johnson outduels Spieth in playoff

At the start of the final round of the North Trust Open, Jordan Spieth held a three-shot lead over Dustin Johnson, with the rest of the field being at least five-shots behind this year's British Open Champion. Through the first five holes, Spieth had extended his lead to five-shots over Johnson and it appeared that he could run away with the tournament.

Spieth then hit it in the water on the sixth hole and double bogeyed. He would shortly follow that up with a bogey on the ninth. Johnson birdied the ninth hole, meaning Spieth entered the turn with only a one-shot lead. Johnson would birdie the 15th hole, his third birdie on the back nine, to tie Spieth at 13-under par.

On the last hole, it looked liked Spieth would win the tournament, as he hit his very long birdie putt right up to the hole for a short par attempt. Johnson then sunk his long par putt to force a sudden death playoff. For the day, Spieth shot a 1-under par 69, while Johnson shot a 4-under par 66 for both men to be at 13-under par, four shots ahead of everybody else.

Replaying the 18th hole, Johnson hit a monster tee shot that was only about 88 yards away from the hole. He then pitched up his second shot, leaving him with a very short birdie attempt. Spieth's birdie putt was much longer and he missed it, as Johnson tapped it to take the first leg of the FedEx Cup and his fourth victory of the year.

Sung Hyun Park comes from behind to win

Going into the final round of the Canadian Women's Pacific Open, Sung Hyun Park was four shots behind leaders Mo Martin and Nicole Broch Larsen, who were 10-under par. Park managed to come from behind, as she started the day tied for eleventh, making birdie on the 16th hole to take the outright lead at 12-under par. She then added a final birdie to get to 13-under par and won the tournament as none of the remaining players in the field would match her score.

When the tournament was over, Park had won by two strokes over Mirimi Lee, with her 7-under par round having propelled her to victory. For the day she had seven birdies and not a single bogey on her card. This victory was Park's second of the year, with her previous victory having come at the US Women's Open. She now joins So Yeon Ryu and IK Kim as the only players who have won twice this season on the LPGA Tour.
